The Virgin Mary Metekhi Church is situated on the cliff plateau, on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The first church on this site was probably constructed by Vakhtang Gorgasali and shares a striking resemblance to the Church built on Virgin Mary's tomb in the Gethsemane garden in Jerusalem. The saint Shushanik was supposedly brought to this church in the seventh century by the former catholicos Kirion.

  Duration: 5 minutes

In the second half of the fifth and the first quarter of the sixth centuries, Vakhtang I Gorgasali, a member of the Chosroid dynasty, ruled Iberia, then known as Kartli. It is challenging to date the reign of Vakhtang. He led his people in a long war against Sasanian Iranian dominance with the support of the Byzantine Empire, which resulted in Vakhtang's defeat and the weakening of the kingdom of Iberia. Tradition also attributes to him the founding of Tbilisi, today's capital of Georgia, and the restructuring of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Ivane Javakhishvili dates Vakhtang's reign as occurring between 449 and 502, whereas Cyril Toumanoff suggests 447 to 522.

Numerous entertainment options are available in the park, including singing and dancing fountains, artificial climbing walls, a kids' maze, mega-chess boards, footpaths, and quiet areas. The starting point of a recently launched cable car that transports guests to the Narikala fortress is situated in Rike park, which also houses a number of upscale bars and eateries.

In the old town of Tbilisi, Rezo Gabriadze constructed a distinctive clock tower next to the marionette theater in 2010. To ring the bell, an angel emerges every hour carrying a tiny hammer. A show called "The Circle of Life" is presented twice daily at 12:00 and 19:00 in a small puppet theater located inside the tower. Rezo adorned the tower with countless tiles that he had personally designed, and it soon rose to prominence as one of Tbilisi's most notable architectural landmarks. The Tower with the Clock or The Tower with the Angel are common names for it.
